Rated 1 out of 5 by sengle from Not pleased. The bolt in the top of the lantern that is there to hold the top is loose and falls into the lantern making it almost impossible to secure the top to the lantern. Very poorly designed.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Maps from A wonderful source of both light and heat We live up in the Santa Cruz Mountains in California where we experience many power outages (21 last year). While we do have a generator and use it to keep our refrigerator and freezer on as necessary, we find the noise ruins a perfectly peaceful power outage. Lucky our house is large and drafty enough to allow indoor usage of the Northstar (I know, I know, they rightfully tell you not to do this). It is easy to light, very bright and illuminates an entire room. We do have multiple Carbon dioxide alarms and never leave them unattended. While I understand and commend the caution that Coleman gives around using these indoors, it is important to remember that the Pennsylvania Dutch still use propane lanterns to light their homes.

Lights instantly with the built-in lighter. Stands tall on your patio or picnic table. Can be hung from a pole or tree. Vast range of light output with the adjustable fuel knob. Performance may falter at very cold temperatures. The case is very hand and protects the lantern very well. You will love this lantern. Uses 1 lb propane bottles.

The Northstar lantern is no exception, it is an extremely bright lantern and equates to 100 W lightbulb which makes it great for dark lit rooms. The lantern is built tough and is reliable, True to the Coleman brand I I have come to know. The carry case is a great addition to this lantern. Buy with confidence and enjoy.

The sock is suppose to just slip on and twist on,but when you do that either the tab breaks before you get the sock on or you cant get on at all. Then you have the problem of the sock getting a hole in it so you cant use the mantle. The other problem is when you pressurize the propaine sometimes it gets to much and blows a hole in manyle when you light the lantern

The Coleman propane lantern gives me plenty of light to see my line plus keeps me safe from tripping on anything. This little lantern doesn’t use up a lot of fuel either plus it has a carrier case that keeps it safe from being broken when not in use and traveling. This is a great investment for anyone else who loves to fish in the dark or just to have a when you go camping etc

I love that it has a base so the light sits flat and isn’t wobbly at all. Easy to screw the propane bottle to the bottom of the light and to get lit. Let’s out a good portion of light, perfect for still playing a card game; or finishing preparing a meal/snack. We can usually use one bottle for multiple camping trips before we have to replace the bottle too.

Very disappointed it won't be able to be used. Will reach out to Coleman this week to see if they know of a way to address it.

Their only downside is they’re heavy on comparison to other versions that Coleman makes, but I love the security aspect of knowing when they’re needed, I don’t have to worry about dead batteries since they are propane.

It also gets very hot (obviously), so you have to be careful of where you place it and you should let it cool properly before storing. It will last you years and years.

Save your fuel and run it on a click or two below full, still gives off plenty of light, cuz it's thirsty on high. Im not sure if this lantern is still made in the USA. Would like to have one of these Northstars that runs on white gas or auto gas.

I like that it uses propane so we can carry extra bottles if we're going to be on an extensive trip that requires lots of use. It is tough and holds up to a lot of use and transport.

When we go to bed we turn it on low sitting on the picnic table in case someone has to get up to go to “the little girls room. “

Rated 3 out of 5 by bingnorth from Good Lantern It is a good lantern and really bright. Only thing, it is a hog on fuel when burning on high. Only lasts 4hrs on 1lb cylinder. Best bet to connect to bulk tank with lots of supply. Mantles a pain to mess around with.
