Description
The Coleman 600 Lumens LED Lantern with BatteryGuard stops battery drain so you'll have power when you need it most. Conventional battery-operated lanterns experience residual power drain as long as batteries are connected to the circuit, even when the device is turned off. With BatteryGuard, the batteries are automatically disengaged from the circuit when the lantern is switched off to extend their life by as much as 25%. This tech[delete]logy also reduces the chance of damaging corrosion so batteries can be stored in the device for years (up to their inherent shelf life). Additional features include a single button to turn the lantern on and off, up to 30 hours runtime on high using 3 D batteries (sold separately), water resistance, impact resistance up to 2 meters (on dirt), and lifetime LED bulbs that never need replacing. A nice solid lantern
1) I wanted the battery guard feature in an emergency lantern which implies I wanted a conventional battery powered unit. This one can stay on the shelf for many years with batteries in it.
2) I also particularly wanted one with nicely diffused light. i.e. No blinding bright spot if you look at the lantern.
3) It claims water resistance but I have not tested that.
4) I am happy that it appears solidly built for an inexpensive lantern. I expect it would holdup well for basic camping.
So It has the 4 main features I was primarily looking for.
It particular one is rated at 600lm so is moderately bright. It will light a room sufficiently in case of a blackout. If you want the room really bright you might use two of these or buy the 800 or 1000lm units. You could buy a few of these and leave them set on low in the bathroom, halls and necessary shared rooms all night. Coleman also offer a lower power 200lm unit of this type (Batteryguard) .
This model has only three illumination settings off/low/high controlled by a simple switch on top.
It is smaller than I expected but that is a good thing as it does not take much room.
It is made in China though.

Not made to last.
Bought this lantern in Canadian Tire in the spring 2024 for use at the cabin. It has only been used 3 times and it is already broken. I have always associated Coleman with quality, durable products but now I know that is no longer the case with newer products. This lantern stopped working and then the rotating knob on the top broke off. I now see from the reviews that this is a design problem other users have encountered.

Not durable.
Bought this lantern in the spring for use at the cabin. It’s been used 3 times this summer with fresh batteries and already it has stopped working and the small rotating switch on the top broke off. While it was working this was a very nice lantern, good size, very bright, it’s just unfortunate that it is not as well made or designed as previous Coleman products I have purchased.

Bottom stuck
Didn’t even get a chance to use the lantern. Placed batteries in according to instructions and bottom would not close now is stuck in a position that won’t open or close. Also a bit heavy with batteries, not ideal for back country if you’re concerned of packing weight. Do not recommend this light at all. It’s been sitting in my garage unable to use.

Stopped working after light use, can't be repaired
I picked this lantern up at a box store and it was wonderful while it worked. Like other reviewers, the knob stopped working altogether after a year of only occasional use. In the process of trying to repair it, the inner attachment broke off. Extremely disappointing given how lightly it has been used. It is not appropriate for regular outdoor use.

Great little lantern
I’ve had this same lantern for years and it’s lasted so long! It’s great when there’s a blackout or when we stay at our cabin. There is a dim mode and a bright mode which is great if you don’t want a harsh light. It does take batteries so keep in mind you will need to change these every now and then.

OK lamp. Bad knob. Is replacement knob available?
I see from the other reviews that the knob commonly breaks on this lantern.
I take a pair of pliers along with the lantern when I camp now. Even with the pliers,. it's hard to operate. But better than trashing an otherwise functional item.
Hey,. Coleman, do you offer replacement knobs for this?

Coleman Lamp Switch Knob
This a nice handy stationary light for our patio. However, identical to the prior rating, I purchased a Coleman LED lantern and used it only a few times (never dropped or abused) around the home when the top knob for the on/off switch broke at the internal spline rendering the light inoperable

Broken knob, DO NOT BUY!
On/off knob completely broke off after only two camping trips. Coleman used to be my go-to for camping supplies, not any more. Completely ridiculous that something as simple as turning it on or off will outright break the product.

ON-OFF Knob breaks - NOT Recommended
The knob broke on the second use. I have not yet been able to get a replacement. Finding the part on their website is impossible.
DO NOT PURCHASE ANY OF THESE LANTERNS!!
I'm throwing this one out, yet another landfill stuffer.

Great lantern for camping
This lantern worked really good when we went camping at Readwood State Park . Very bright and battery stayed long. My husband loved it and not only use it for camping. He used it at home when power go off. Highly recommend!!

Bottom won't open

Broken Knob
Just like all the other reviews the knob to turn it on and off borke.
I would suggest that no one buys this product.
@Coleman there is no excuse to not have a replacement knob available.
