Cheap fan motors
Overall I like the ice chest.
But the 12 volt fans are cheap and burn up quickly . The fan motors cause the plastic plugins to overheat and melt.

Have owned one for years.
I bought this cooler/heater years ago. I use it for both keeping food/drink cold and hot. My cooler/heater has operated flawlessly despite my less than gentle handling. Whenever people see it, they ask where did I get it, and I always recommend it.

Power cord issues
I'm a long haul trucker and have owned 3 of these coolers over 6 yrs. Best electric cooler I've ever used. Problem is power cord. Design of plug end allows the spring inside to act as a resistor, heat up and collapse causing cooler not to work. I made my own cord and plug to solve this issue and it's lasted 6 yrs with no issues. Get it together Coleman engineering. Simple problem simple solution

...Hello there!!! This is my 4th puchase of the Power Chill! I have (1) that is a 'Hot/Cold' and (3) 'Cold'!!!!! These coolers meet my needs perfectly!! I bought (2) extra power supplies because I have one cooler/supply that quit on me. That cooler ran 24-7 at my Fish Camp for over 18 months. Just a note: Read the labels on the cooler cooling unit. It say defrost 'Frequently'.... if you hear the 'Fan' ticking or sounding goofy.... unplug the cooker for about 45 minutes...it will defrost!!! This is a great item and super $Value$!!! Semper Fi! La glacière serait vraiment bien si... le fusible ne "sautait" pas toutes les 3-4 semaines. Et... vous ne pouvez pas simplement le changer sans avoir à échanger le cordon dans son ensemble. Donc produit médiocre !

Disappointed
This cooler was a replacement for one identical just different model. I had the old one for more than ten years, I replaced 3 fans during that time. This cooler is less than 2 years old and I'm already on my third power cord. I ruined one trying to remove burnt fuse, second one was being used, plug got hot bumped against dash plug shattered. I just plugged in number three on Monday and it blew fuse on Thursday. Truly disappointed.

OTR Truckers Not Happening
This cooler needs to defrost every 3 days. The cord runs hot all the time. If you plug cord into a 12v extender or dual adapter the adapters will melt and fuses pop.
Tried converting 12v to 110 under bunk but converter got hot.
This cooler would be great for a family that needs to keep items cool for short trips. Meds/snacks.
Not recommended for truckers.

Saves buying ice.
I use it mostly for keeping food cold and it works fine. Except I plugged the 2 blue markings together and it went hot. Matched the red to the red and it went cold. Just the opposite of what it should have been. Now that I know that, it will work fine for my purposes.

Convenient and Affordable
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This is our 3rd Coleman Thermoelectric Cooler! We use it for camping and long road trips. It also can be used for trips to the grocery store, especially here in Florida! I do however, hope that Coleman works on improving the two fans and motor, as they do not hold up if used for extended periods of time and unfortunately, there are no replacement parts available. (Reason for only 4 stars) All in all, it's worth the money, if you get two years use, without the hassle of buying ice!

Save Your Money
Ive owned my PowerChill for just over a year now. I've had to replace the chord 3 times now due to overheating and making the plug brittle, as the last one fell apart into the 12v outlet it was plugged into. Had to replace the outlet due to it melting as well. Also, it kept blowing the pertinent 15 Amp fuses in my Freightliner, AND THEY'RE NOT EASY TO GET TO!!! It may be more expensive, but I'm going with a Dometic next. At least I'll be able to plug that into my inverter.

Never even met expectations
Opened the cooler from the packaging. Allowed the 3 hours it recommends to get to the cooling temperature, all seemed well and fair. The Next day when i am leaving for my weekend trip I load the cooler with ICE packs and the perishable foods. while hooked up via cigarette lighter (12vdc) the cooler never even got a cold. In fact, the cooler remained warm and then even got warmer just to melt the ICE packs and start to spoil the food inside. Made absolutely sure that the connections were correct, multiple times and it was a total lost of over $100 in food for the weekend. By far the biggest waste of money was purchasing the cooler for the trip, and even more so was all the food that was lost due to its failure. Quite possibly the last coleman product that I will ever buy.

Be aware that this cooler may pose a hazard.
We used this cooler for approximately 5 hours when we noticed a burning smell in our van. Upon pulling over to the side of the road we noticed that the plug end of the Coleman thermoelectric cord had melted inside the 12 volt port into which it was plugged. I managed to pull the melted plug out of the socket. The cord of this Coleman unit is obviously a fire hazard.
The problem is not with the socket in our vehicle because we regularly use the same socket to charge our cell phones without a problem.

Well worth the money
I have had this cooler for at least 20 years and couldn't do without it. We have only replaced the cords once and that was all. I travel from RI to Fl and use it to save on foods, condiments etc and make sure I have things for when I arrive and don't have to run to the market right away. At one time they made a smaller one for a 6 pack of soda that I bought for someone to keep their lunch in and keep things cold with ice. I would love to get another one but don't think Coleman makes them anymore.

I'm on number 3 in 6 months, First one in one month, second in 3 months. When you use it full it freezes the inside fan and the outside fan go's out first. When it's working it keeps Food and drinks very cold. This is great for a occasional user on a camping trip and disposable after a season. I don't know of another that works better when functioning. I wish Coleman would provide a "Powerchill refridgerator" same size but heavy duty. thanks

Good iceless cooler
This was for use when travelling a few days and needing to keep perishables from going bad. It worked well. We followed the instructions and never kept it plugged in longer than 4 hours a day, and when not plugged in, it still kept the food cool. It is not s refrigerator, so the food wasn’t really cold, but the food didn’t go bad. We have not tried plugging it into our car, but was told if doing so, to always do it while the car is running. It is a good size, light weight, and can be used upright or like a traditional cooler.
Happy with our purchase.

Overpriced for what you get.
Works great, when it lasts. I've had several over the past 5 years. Each had blown the glass fuse many times. The one I have now blows the fuse weekly. And you can't just buy this fuse. You have to buy the replacement cord for a DIFFERENT brand that won't even work on this, to take the fuse out of that and place in this piece of junk. If you're going to make these to be such disposable pieces of garbage, knock the price in half.

4th use, no cooling going on. Frustrated in Omaha
Purchased this unit for a road trip home from Tennessee, following my sister's wedding, and worked great. Two other short distance trips worked great. Last week short trip to campsite, NO WORKING COOLER!!!! Checked plug, fuse and even tried multiple vehicles and a new wall adapter, fans running but no cooling going on. Help?

Great product if it works
I bought this product in December and used it in my car for a long trip in January. It worked great. Kept the food cool to avoid spoiling. I stored the cooler for about 2 months and then went to use it on another trip and it no longer worked. I am very disappointed that this product did not hold up.

I loved this cooler for the one time we could use it, then the fan stopped. Figured it was bad luck and got a replacement only to have it fail again. So frustrated as I have medications we need to keep cold and this was perfect. Back to the drawing board. I really expected more from a Coleman product.

Not worth your money
I have bought this item twice, within one year. The first one lasted six months before it completely quit working. I tried to change the fuse, use different plug and nothing. So I went and bought another one same item and it only lasted three months. This one still runs but it don’t get cooled. And my truck stays ice cold. Replaced the fuse, unplugged it for a few days, and nothing. It never was frozen cause I checked. Total waste of money. Do your research and find a better made cooler. Trust me you’ll be happy

Hard Times Lifesaver
This thing worked amazingly. So end of 2019 things went off course in life ended up 1st moving into a run down rv with a faulty fridge and with both work trucks needing engines rebuilt and my jeep a transmission I couldn't afford to replace it thats when I found this coleman powerchill and for over a year it was my fridge in the rv.
Well with covid and busted work trucks things were still going downhill and at the start of 2021 I was living in my jeep so not much space for a lot of stuff but with a hot plate and this cooler still workin like a champ provided a little bit of comfort by keeping milk, eggs, sandwich meat and condiments fresh and allowing for warm meals.
This coleman has been a lifesaver with the comfort it provided and now in 2023 it still works great when needed but it gets to take it a bit easier now that things are picking up and we're out of the jeep in a shed I fixed up to make livable for now with a mini fridge, the hotplate and a toaster oven but I know if I need it it's right there ready to go.

Good, but could be better
I use mine in my truck(over the road). They work great at first, but the fan goes out and they become almost useless. Used to be able to get replacement fans for them. Cant find them anymore. I'm on my second one, disappointed that I can get parts.
