Rated 5 out of 5 by Crazy8 from Simple, effective way to start a fire. I have had one of these for 30 years and still going strong. If used correctly it can star a fire in damp conditions. Shaving the magnesium is key in starting a fire in damp conditions. On the survival shows they always try to rely on the striker without the magnesium. They don't realize the sparks start the magnesium and the magnesium burns at 6000 degrees farenheit. Use the smooth side only. I carried it every time I went to the field in the Army and camping with my son in Boy Scouts. He learned to start fires with one of these.

Or even a day trip hiking in woods. Should carry one of these. Let’s face it fire is essential to your survival. Even if you aren’t planning on staying overnight. You may get lost and this could really make a difference in your life better to have it an not need it then to need and not have . Lightweight and easy to use fire starter

While matches and lighters are easier to use these magnesium sticks will work when wet unlike matches and you can see how much is left of the stick unlike lighters that run out of fuel. I keep mine attached to a pocket knife and keep it in my pack when I head out into the woods along with a few other small things that can be used in an emergency or I get stuck somewhere.

But I had never used one before. He wanted to make sure I could use on my own so when we went camping he had me do it on my own. Before trying it I read a lot of the reviews on it so I could learn properly because my boyfriend isn’t the best teacher lol. He showed me but I couldn’t get the hang of it. So when reading reviews they had a lot of helpful tips, two of the most helpful tips I read was to use dryer lint as a little kindling, which i already had, and then to also make sure I use enough shavings. And so after I used more shavings and made sure it was in a little pile on the lint , I had no issues and was able to start my first fire! This is a very useful thing to have, and it’s important to know how to use it as well! I definitely recommend this!

I bought a magnesium and flint so I could practice up on my ability to make a fire with the most basic of materials. I love to solo camp and explore, so I like knowing I have my bases covered if something doesn’t go to plan. Tough to get started with! Definitely need to take the connecting chain off and practice the best way to hold each material/angles to strike. Great price for super usable materials!

With Coleman Fire Starter, you will get a clean spark every time. The spark comes off large which is sure to catch on dried grass and twigs to get a small flame going. Never be in the wilderness without this. It may save your life!

This is as easy as counting to three. A little starter fluid, get this sparked, and you’re good to go. Small enough to carry in a small pack, great for emergencies too. Never know if you’ll need to have a fire for heat.
